COURSE OUTCOMES:

On completion of the course, the students will be able to:

CO1: Understanding the foundational concepts of individual behavior in organizations, including

perception, personality, attitudes, and learning processes.

CO2: Applying various motivational theories and models to develop strategies for enhancing employee

engagement and performance.

CO3: Evaluating the dynamics of group behavior, team development, and conflict management

techniques within organizational contexts.

CO4: Analyzing different leadership theories and styles to determine their effectiveness in various

organizational situations and across cultures.

COURSE CONTENTS:

UNIT I: FOUNDATIONS OF INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOR [9 Sessions]

Foundations of Individual Behavior: The organization and the individual: Perception: process, principles

and errors of perception, behavioral applications of perception. Personality-Determinants and types of

personality, Job Attitudes & its Components, Theory of attitude formation and attitude change. Learning

and Learning Theories.

UNIT II: MOTIVATION [9 Sessions]

Motivation: Definition and concept, theories of motivation- Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Herzberg's

Two Factor theory, ERG theory, Vroom's Expectancy theory, Equity theory, Reinforcement theory and

Behavior Modification. Cross cultural issues in OB.

UNIT III: FOUNDATIONS OF GROUP BEHAVIOR [9

Sessions]

Foundations of Group Behavior: Defining and Classifying Groups, stages of group development, Group

Structure, Group Processes, Group Dynamics, Group v/s Team, Team Effectiveness. Group and

Intergroup Relations. Conflict and Negotiation- Transitions in Conflict Thought, Functional versus

Dysfunctional Conflict, Conflict Process, Conflict Management Techniques, Negotiation process,

Bargaining strategies, Global implications.

UNIT IV: [9 Sessions]

Leadership: Nature and Significance of leadership, leadership in different cultures, leadership theories

and Styles: Trait theories, Behavioral theories-- Ohio State Studies, Michigan Studies, and Managerial

Grid. Contingency theories-- Fiedler’s Model, Hersey and Blanchard's Situational theory, Path Goal

theory, Emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness, Recent Development in Leadership Theory.

UNIT-V: ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE & ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE [9

Sessions]

Organizational Culture: Concept, Relationship of Culture with organizational behavior, National and

Global Culture, Levels of organizational culture, analyzing managing and changing organizational

culture, Global Implications for manager. Organizational Change: Resistance to change, approaches to

managing organizational change, Kurt Lewin Model of change.
