UNIT I: INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE [6 SESSIONS]
Definition and evolution of BI, BI vs. Data Analytics vs. Data Science, BI architecture and components, Role of BI in
decision-making, Real-life applications of BI across industries, Case Study: BI in e-commerce and banking.
UNIT II: INTRODUCTION TO POWER BI DESKTOP [6 SESSIONS]
Getting started with Power BI, Installing and navigating Power BI Desktop, Power BI ecosystem (Power BI Desktop,
Service, Mobile), Importing data from multiple sources (Excel, CSV, SQL, Web), Overview of data transformation using
Power Query.
UNIT III: DATA MODELLING AND DAX IN POWER BI [8 SESSIONS]
Data modelling basics: relationships, star and snowflake schema, Creating calculated columns, measures, and KPIs,
Introduction to DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), Commonly used DAX functions for aggregation, time intelligence, filters,
etc., Managing model performance.
UNIT IV: DATA VISUALIZATION AND REPORT BUILDING [10 SESSIONS]
Best practices in data visualization, Creating bar, line, pie charts, matrix, slicers, etc., Using themes, filters, tooltips, and
bookmarks, Drill through, drill-down, and interactive reports, Designing dashboards for specific business functions (Sales,
HR, Finance).
UNIT V: PUBLISHING, SHARING, AND BI ETHICS [15 SESSIONS]
Publishing reports to Power BI Service, Sharing and collaborating on dashboards, Row-level security (RLS), Data privacy,
governance, and ethical use of BI, Introduction to AI Visuals and Power BI Q&A, Capstone Mini Project: Build an
interactive BI report using real-world data (Student-led).
PRACTICAL / LAB WORK [15 SESSIONS]
Hands-on sessions using Power BI, Individual and group assignments, Weekly lab assessments, Industry-based case
simulations, Final dashboard presentation and viva
